Julianne Attai Receives Outstanding TA Award
We are excited to announce that Julianne Attai was recognized as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant by the Department of Mechanical Engineering! This award recognizes her efforts in the spring semester as a Teaching Assistant for a first-year programming class, MCEN1030: Introduction to Engineering Computing.
As part of her approach in TAing, Julianne strives to make every student feel welcome and unafraid to ask questions. One of the ways she does this is by sharing personal failures from her own first year programming course, allowing her to connect with students and normalizing the struggles that come with learning new and challenging material.
She was nominated by Dr. Katherine Ramos, the instructor of the course, who highlighted Julianne’s efforts to go above and beyond for the students in the class:
“Julianne was an exceptional Teaching Assistant for MCEN 1030, and her impact on the course went well beyond regular TA responsibilities. She showed a genuine commitment to student success, not just through her grading and instruction, but by consistently advocating for students. Julianne is approachable, knowledgeable, and consistently supportive of students in recitation. Her initiative, attention to detail, and willingness to go above and beyond made a meaningful impact on the course.” - Professor Ramos
Congratulations Julianne - this is a well earned recognition for your outstanding work!
